Bernini & Borromini Tour

Tour Overview

  • Bernini changed the face of Rome; he made it largely Baroque. Borromini was first his collaborator and then his rival. He innovated with architectural designs while Bernini extended the limits of sculpting. They have both left their enduring marks on the city of Rome with completely opposing styles, one was more mathematical and scientific in his approach and the other dramatic, classical and naturalistic in his vision.

  • We will visit a couple of churches and piazzas for 2 or 3 hours such as San Carlo alle Fontane, San Andrea al Quirinale, Tritone Fontane, St. Theresa in Ecstasy. Another route would be Santa Maria sopra Minerva, San Ivo, Piazza Navona and the Borromini Oratory.
